Today's question is what was the best piece of advice I've ever received. The advice was actually in the form of a speech someone gave while I was in college. It took me forever to understand what the person was saying and as I've gotten older, I've appreciated the speech more and more.
The speech basically broke down into 4 simple points. I'll give you the Cliff Notes version here:
Point 1 - As Marvin Gaye said "believe half of what you see. Some or none of what you hear". The media's gotten even more opinionated than it was before. It's to the point that you may be reading an article about one company and not know that the author is being paid by that company's rival to trash the first company. Which leads to.....
Point 2 - Think for yourself. You don't know what the motivation is of people who say that they have your best interests at heart. That includes your own family. Be able to think for yourself. Which leads to.....
Point 3 - Believe in yourself. No one else will believe in you if you don't believe in yourself first. Believe that you have the talent to get to where you need to go. Then focus on it like it's your survival. Burn the boats, if you will. Which leads to.....
Point 4 - Go after your dreams and don't let anything or anyone stop you. The only difference between you and the people who succeeded, despite their limited talent sometimes, is that they had the balls to try. Go for your dreams because if you don't, someone else will.
