Back in 1991, Louis Farrakhan of the Nation of Islam said that the Gulf War was the beginning of Armageddan and was to be the "Final War". Shockingly, he was wrong on both counts.

End of the World Predictions - 2004
Some people believed that the world would end in 2004. They based it on numerology, Jewish holidays and a whole bunch of other Biblical passes and numbers. In a related note, people danced the macarena in the late 1990s.

End of the World Predictions - April 17, 2008
In a book, Ronald Weinland says that the world will end on April 17, 2008. The United States will be the first to suffer. He may have been right. I think it was the first year one of those Kardashian shows went on the air. That has to mean the end of the world.

End of the World Predictions - 12:00 AM Jan 1, 2000
Jan1, 2000 12:00 AM - Y2K. Remember that one? That was the time that everything electronic was supposed to shut down because they couldn't handle going back to all zeroes. Mass histeria was supposed to happen. The power grid was supposed to shut down. People sold books on how to survive. Survival packs and shelters were sold. After 11 years, I'm still waiting for that one.

End of the World Prediction - Sept 1994
Back in 1994, Harold Camping made his first prediction that the world would end. In a book called "Are You Ready?", Camping used Biblical numbers that he said added up to 1994. That meant that the world would end in 1994. Almost 20 years later, we're still trying to get the numbers to add up.

End of the World Prediction May 21, 2011 - Oct 21, 2011
There have also been commercials on tv saying that there's a guy who knows when America will end and that this guy's predictions have been right in the past. Well, I figured out that this guy is Harold Camping. He's a a rich guy who owns a lot of radio stations who decided that the world will end in May but that the world will also be consumed by fire on Oct 21 of this year.
Now, before you run out, grab your emergency supplies, and kiss your loved ones goodbye, you should know that he also predicted the same thing for 1994. I guess he's just figuring that people will forget about how wrong he was back then and follow him now.
These events, along with all of these shows on the History Channel about the end of the world, Nostradamus, and the Antichrist got me thinking: how many other times has someone predicted the end of the world so I did a little research. It turns out there are at least 240 other times some self proclaimed prophet scared everybody into thinking that the Rapture was coming. It goes all the way back to 2800 BC. The Jehovah Witnesses and the Watchtower Society are good for at least 8 of them over the past century. I've decided I'm going to post one prediction a day, just so people will stop this "end of the world" stupidity. After all, it'll be every body's end someday but I doubt the entire world will end on the same day.
This post about May 21 will count as the first one. According to Camping, the world will end at sundown in Jerusalem. He points to Matthew 24: 35 - 36 as proof. Remember, though, that this is his second prediction. By the way, the photo on this blog? That's Harold Camping.

Story - Pick Your Apocalypse
As world events seem to spiral out of control, I've noticed the end of the world talk start up again. Everyone's becoming fixated on Dec 21, 2012: the date the Mayan calendar supposedly said the world would end. I suppose that wars in the Middle East (there's war in the Middle East? Shocking), dead animals, and massive Japanese earthquake, tsunami, and nuclear disasters will make people a little jumpy.
I guess things will only get worse as late 2012 gets closer. There will be books written, cable tv (especially the History Channel) will do their apocalypse conspiracy shows, and people will be taken advantage of with "pay your way into Heaven" scams. The entire world will freak out. I won't be freaking out, though. I'm still worrying about swine flu, bird flu, Y2K, Haley's comet, and every other sign that the world's going to end. I've had people tell me that the world was going to end in 2006 after their deadline of 2000 passed.
People have thought that the Anti-Christ was going to walk the Earth since pretty much right when Christianity became a major religion. In the 1800s, people thought it was Nepoleon. In the 1940s, it was Hitler. If you talk to some people today, President Obama is the Anti-Christ. He will be the 2nd one this century, after President George W. Bush.
It's going to be everybody's end of the world sometime. If you honestly think that next year the world will end, then don't pay your taxes. Save the money and live it up. I wouldn't worry so much. The world will keep turning. Make the most of this life while you have it. Besides, once the Mayan deadline passes, there'll be another one.
