Sylvia Saint was born on 12 February 1976 in Kyjov, in the Czech Republic. "After school, I studied management for two years at an institute in Brno the Czech Republic's second largest city. After that I was employed as manager in one of the biggest hotels in the city of Zlin. From there I moved into a private firm where I was responsible for accountancy and marketing. The job was hard though, and I didn't make a lot of money. That's why I accepted a proposal to do modelling. In 1995 I started doing underwear shows and then came proposals for soft nude pictures. I tried it and I liked it."

In 1996 "My then boyfriend took me to a casting for an American porn production. From all the girls present I was the only one who was selected. They gave me a few days to think about it, and finally I said yes." Her first film "was directed by Frank Thring, and I believe it was called 'Lee Nover: Search For The Perfect Breasts'. I did one scene there with Czech actor Robert Rosenberg." Sylvia continued modelling for various adult magazines. By age 19 she had already appeared in almost all international editions of Penthouse. "I did lots of it. Mostly soft single or couple photos. I was Penthouse Pet of the year 1996 in the Czech Penthouse. And I was competing for that in the US edition as well, in 1998. I did many photo's for Czech magazines like Fontana, Leo."

Although Sylvia's boyfriend, who was also a porn actor, did not mind her appearing in hard-core films, her parents were shocked. "At the beginning… it was very difficult to explain. I sat down with my mum and told her everything, how and why… My mum is my best friend, so it is all right."

Sylvia soon began working for some of Europe's biggest adult companies, such as Marc Dorcel's VMD, and Private. She was a natural, and her petite yet perfect figure, along with her beautiful face made her extremely popular throughout Europe. She had no inhibitions in front of the camera and had no problem appearing in anal sex, double penetration or even domination scenes. Although she claims to be "100% hetero… I don't object against having sex with other women." “In fact, I like group sex very much and in these situations there is more than one woman taking part. In 1997 she appeared in one of her most erotic movies to date, 'Rocco And Miss Erotica In Prague', with Italian porn legend Rocco Siffredi. "We did four scenes only… What I remember is that we did a scene in a limousine. Rocco became very wild, because he liked working with me."

Towards the end of 1997 she began working in the US as well. "I prefer working in the States because in the US they do not shoot hard sex like in Europe. They just do a couple of scenes and at maximum you do anal." Nevertheless, the US scene was not as glamorous as its European counterpart. "In Europe… You fly from Prague to Paris and back. To Germany and back. To Italy and back. If you come to California you just stay in one place - LA… in Europe there are much better girls."

In 1999 Sylvia split with her long time boyfriend, as "he was not happy that I did this job." Later that year she was nominated and won the prize for 'Best Tease Performance' at the Adult Video News Awards. Towards the end of 1999 she became pregnant and moved back to the Czech Republic in order to give birth to her first child. Once she had recovered, and despite her family's continued reservations, she decided to re-enter the European porn business. She based herself in Brno and began working primarily for Private. Nevertheless, being a famous porn star in the Czech Republic was not easy. "I know that some people know me, they saw my pictures in a magazine or they watched my movies. Some of them support me, others hate me for doing porn and making big money. I guess they're just jealous." That same year she won the award for 'Best European Supporting Actress' at the Cannes Hot D'Or. Although at the time Sylvia Saint had no intention of leaving the business, and hoped to continue making porn films "for another four to five years”, rumours of her retirement began to circulate in late 2000. Director Frank Thring announced in an interview that: "as of December 28th, Sylvia Saint has retired from the business. She is very much in love at the moment, with a rather wealthy young Czech businessman, in the antiques business, and she has decided that she'd prefer to retire after five years making movies. We all hope she'll come back to us one day, but she's quite adamant at the moment. We don't expect to see her making movies for some considerable time, if at all. She is in the Czech Republic now, and right now does not plan to attend the AVN Adult Entertainment Expo, where she was expected to sign for Private. That could possibly change, but I think it most unlikely." Sylvia eventually announced her permanent retirement from the porn industry in March 2001.

It didn't last though, and she soon returned as a nude model appearing in dozens of magazines. Towards the end of 2002 it was rumoured that she was working as an escort in the US, and a number of agencies began to advertise her services for €1,000 per hour. It also appeared that her services were not limited simply to escorting, but rather included private sex sessions for clients willing to pay her price. On an escort review site one former client announced: "This babe was hot. I have met her twice and she is perfection. Not to be missed. I thought it was a scam and am pleased to report it is real. Hot for anal and I was ready to please. Did not look at the clock and did not rush me. This was my best night ever." Another claimed: "The best bet in Vegas. Apparently she just started doing this, this winter and I found out through another escort site. Anyway, I hired her and she was incredible. I got the works and I wanted to film it but she declined. Not sure why Sylvia declined, but I got to take some pics and that was a real plus... I was very impressed with her and will be back for more... Great fun and sooooo sexy." None of the escorting and prostitution claims can be confirmed though, and Sylvia herself has always denied it!

Although other European porn stars that began during the mid-1990's often eclipsed Sylvia within Europe itself, she made the biggest impression of them all on the US scene. She remains one of the most uninhibited and beautiful European adult stars to have appeared over the last decade, and one that was willing to do almost anything in front of the camera.
