BLOG EXCLUSIVE: Message From The Owner Of Naughty Machinima

Yesterday, we received a note from Muze, the owner of Naughty Machinima. It's great to get some insight from him into what's been happening at NM and how he's been trying to make the site not lose money and improve it at the same time.

He also responded to several comments on the blog.

Here's Muze's whole note:




First off, it was never my intention to prevent members from viewing their own content. More on that later.

DJQuad: I never received any PMs from you regarding advertising or I most certainly would have responded. Perhaps something went wrong with the PM system but I have no shortage of complaints about this one or that one in my inbox so I think it's working. I even checked the backend database and there are no messages from you. Did you use DJQuad to contact me?

I'm sorry for the broken contact form. It came to my attention reading a comment here and I fixed it immediately. It was working about a month ago and I simply wasn't aware.

How did it break? Well I hired a programmer to help with making changes to the site. My goal was to:

1. Add improvements, fix bugs.
2. Convert to limited free/pay site, or close the site.

This programmer is no longer responding after months of working on the site. Unfortunately many of the changes he made broke. The original outline for the pay site was to absolutely allow users to still edit/view/delete/etc their own videos, respond/delete comments. That didn't get implemented.

Now if you are concerned about not being able to watch your own videos, just don't try to login. The guest user is unlimited, because it was also not implemented correctly. This will change, but first I want to allow free members to still login and view their own content. When that's resolved, guest users will be limited, and will have to create an account, which can be free (with monthly limits).

I have another programmer who I will have take over the project.

I have no desire to close it down and I thank those who are helping to support the site. If it were to shut down everyone would get REFUNDS. I would hope that was obvious but someone suggested otherwise.

Please don't claim to know how to financially support my site through ads. That's how I've been making a living for over a decade. My other site, which is free, succeeds because it's relatively low bandwidth - the complete opposite of a streaming video site - and users visit it looking for adult games and similar, and a certain percentage is ready to spend some money. They aren't looking to watch videos or upload large files.

Someone did contact me several times through several methods about advertising something in SL. I responded every time with a yes and the appropriate info and wouldn't hear back every time or for several months, so that situation was too unreliable. That's the grand total of requests for advertising I've received, so don't act like I'm turning down advertisers at every turn.

I don't want to ONLY support the site (although I will; if it breaks even I can live with that). I have to profit as well. This is how I make a living. For years the site has just bled money. It was always my intention to profit, and I hoped ads would serve that purpose. Perhaps better targeting would help, but it's unlikely.

One IP address per user is for security reasons.

Finally, perhaps the restrictions will change, when I find other ways to add value to paying members, while loosening the limits.

NAUGHTY MACHINIMA CHANGES. AND SO WILL WE.

Looks like NM's planned changes are happening. I've gotten a few reports from people who were logged in. They can't even view videos without paying.

So here's a quick fix for that.

1. You can still unlog and watch videos if you are a "Guest Viewer"

2. You can still get embed codes that way too.

My guess is that if most of you are asked to pay to upload, you'll choose other sites.

There's like THE KITTY SHACK, XTUBE, SLUTLOAD, BLIP.tv (not a great option, they take down adult content) and there's THE INFERNO too. Also, Ruff Brocco has started to do PRIVATE uploads on YOUTUBE and uses that link on his own site: Gangbang Brothas.

All of this means that it will be hard to see all the new videos in one place. Well, we're here to help that.
We're going to introduce a new feature called NEW MOVIE PREMIERES.

1. Just leave the link of the new movie in the comments section of the blog. Do it under this article or any new movie premiere article.

2. Put the embed code in their too. PLEASE...or we'll just mention your video and not play it.

3. We'll add your movie to the NEW PREMIERES page the next time we check comments.

We won't list your comment in the comments section. We'll just add your film.
You can still leave regular comments their too, of course :)

NAUGHTY MACHINIMA STILL FREE...SO FAR

Some speculation that Naughty Machinima is no longer free and you can only pay to upload.
It may happen. But as of today at 2pm there were no notes about that.

And I was able to upload a film like normal.

NAUGHTY MACHINIMA'S NEW FEATURED SEXXXY MOVIES

Natalie Xenga's "Bali" Brings us a RL Tropical Paradise.

Congratulations to director's Natalie Xenga, Bert Jedburgh, and Scooby Mode. They are all included in the latest wave of featured movies at Naughty Machinima. Some big names are cast by all three director's too. Krystal Pearl, EmeeLee (Ember) Rage, and Jinx Jierson to name just a few.

Featured projects are a great source of inspiration to newcomers on the SL Porn Scene. A true yardstick of quality. They are often the flag ship movies of the scene too, in many cases peoples first experience of SL Porn.

This latest crop stand out for many reasons, Natalie Xenga's faultless technical skills placing her cast into a tropical paradise with green screen and the knack for just chilling you out and turning you on at the same time. Bert Jedburghs wonderful use of shadows, photography, cinematic cityscape's, and Scooby Modes stunning backdrops and locations. All demonstrate how you can be successful with creative projects of a large scope, and genuinely well thought out concepts.

BREAKING NEWS: FROM NAUGHTY MACHINIMA!!

This statement has appeared on the Naughty Machinima site very recently....

"To help offset the costs of running this site, we will be switching to a usage based system shortly. There is a basic free option, but there will be monthly limits, which can be extended by choosing a payment plan. If you get an expired message you have to choose an option, or wait until the following month. This is the best solution for now and will be fine tuned as we move forward. Thanks for understanding. "

We can only speculate at the allocated share per month on a free account at this point. One things for sure though it is going to change the landscape to some degree with the more prolific film makers among us in mind.

So feel free to leave your comments here on the subject and give your views.

Two of my most popular movies stopped working on Naughty Machinima. LA CAGNA RICCA and THE YACHT CLUB.

So I put them back up last night.

LOTS OF NAUGHTY NEWS

It seems that Naughty Machinima and the Naughty Bitch, two of the main sites that host our adult SL films, have done a great job of improving their sites.

On the plus side, NM movies look very sharp. And the trouble of films getting cut off is gone. I was sad though that the movies that i did before 2010 are not working. Maybe it happened as they fixed the servers. So please check your movies. I will be reposting a lot of mine.

Cybercat Bekkers sent out a notice that the NB has upped their quality level. And if your movies are pixelating, just put them through at a higher quality level. I like the sound of that!!!

AN EVEN BETTER XXX MOVIE!!

Since I last blogged about the quality of Ruff and Rayven's films, I wanted to do an experiment with one of mine.

So here is my film La cagna ricca on 5 different sites. Blip TV, Naughty Machinima (through a link to XTube), Slutload, XTube and The Naughty Bitch.

BLIP TV (La cagna ricca)
I think the movie looks amazing here. And here's a link to see it in their HD. But seriuosly, this looks so good. I like that it gives a great pic of the film before it plays. 

I did have to adjust the size of the picture down. It was a little too big for the blog. But that was not so hard.

I hate how out of sinc the voice is. I tried uploading this a bunch of times.
It does give a pic before it plays, which is nice. 


But I HATE the voice on this.

I couldn't actually upload it directly onto the NM site so I used a link from XTube. The Xtube link does look great.

Right now NM is cutting off the end of movies (but not embedded movies). I also don't like how NM doesn't always give a pic in the viewer before it plays.

This is a very good quality picture. Not quite as HD as Blip. But they allow porn.
I do wish it showed a pic before playing.







NAUGHTY BITCH (La cagna ricca)
I always thought this movie looked great on the NB viewer. Others have gotten more "pixelled" look to their movies.


I wish the screen pic was a little better.


               

Overall, I was VERY impressed with Blip TV. I downloaded the video in there regular form and HD and the regular quality was EXCELLENT.  Almost as good. Then I read why.

As of today all new uploads to blip.tv will be presented to viewers in glorious h.264. This means that videos will be clearer, higher quality, and more compatible with a wider range of devices. h.264 plays perfectly in the Flash player, in HTML5, on Google TV, on iPhones, on iPads and almost everything else in the world.

Even better, all h.264 conversions will be in either full SD (480p) or HD (720p). Pro users who upload videos that are 720p or better will receive the HD conversions, while all producers will have access to 480p.

One thing against Blip.TV is that it has commercials. But as Rayven pointed out in her blog, she only made 6 cents off that. So I turned them off. And I don't think there are any playing on mine.

I am not saying that the others are bad players. I will continue to strongly support NM and NB. They are home for me.

And here's a big warning. Blip TV is not a viewer for "pornography," although you can do settings for "Adult Content." But if there's ever a crackdown or complaints, you probably shouldn't plan on your videos being there forever. 

But for now, enjoy the picture.

IMPORTANT: A Smart Suggestion for Porn Directors

For those of us who are posting videos on both the Naughty Bitch and Naughty Machinima, Rayven Baily has a very smart idea on her website that we ALL SHOULD FOLLOW:

 (Why)"...post the same video on Naughty Bitch and Naughty Machinima... You could (have) embedded between the two. Why waste the server space on both sites?"

When you UPLOAD to a site it takes up space on their servers. And there's only so much room for our films then.  In comparison, EMBEDDING is just linking to another site. You're not using much space when you do that.

So if you don't EMBED and choose to UPLOAD to both, you are using up TWICE the space!!!

Right now NM (Naughty Machinima) seems to have more space issues than NB (Naughty Bitch).
My suggestion is to UPLOAD your videos on NB and use that EMBED CODE for NM

Before I reveal who that is, a few words on why I keep track of this.

Some people have brought up a good point. That "Most films" encourages people to just put anything out on Naughty Machinima or the Naughty Bitch. That it's not good for the bandwidth of the site. Or for SL art.

Valid points.

But the reason I include it, is because people want to act in films. And this was a good way to show who was actually making films. There are other ways to encourage quality (a big announcement on that later), but this is about encouraging people to get out there and do what our group loves to do: Make sexy movies.

Well after 4 weeks of waiting for uploading and several tries, LA CAGNA RICCA finally was loaded onto NM. Thanks to Madame Aprille and Ace!!

TECH NOTE: I wasn't able to download it directly onto Naughty Machinima without the sync being off by several seconds. And considering how important the  voice is, that just wouldn't do. So this version was embedded from another site. Still, I think it looks really clean and clear and the sound is great.

The Naughty Machinima site briefly put up a notice that all was fixed late last night. But today the notice was changed to "Almost there." According to MUZE...

unfortunately we're not out of the water yet. There was a problem with the restoration and uploads don't appear to be working. I have found the problem but the site needs to be restored again and hopefully will be fully functional by tomorrow. I'll keep you posted.
