THE TOP 50 SIMS!

According to Hamlet Au's brilliant blog, NEW WORLD NOTES, here are the 50 most popular sims in Second Life.

As usual ADULT and MATURE rated sims dominated the rankings!!
So congrats to all our friends making the list.

Here's numbers 26-50...

You can read 1-25 and Hamlet's entire article after the break.

Top 50 Most Popular Second Life Sims for December 2011

Only in Second Life would an interactive art installation vie for popularity alongside an entire island devoted to bukkake. Courtesy Louis Platini's Metaverse Business, a Second Life/OpenSim analytics company that gathers publicly accessible in-world data for its clients, here's the top 50 most popular sims in Second Life for December 2011, listed according their average visitor count, the unique visitor range at any given period, and the sim's rank the previous month. With only 8 new entries to the top 50, December's list is even more static from November, which saw only ten new entries to the top 50. (Though not necessarily new sims.) Here's the top 25:

The art installation I'm referring to is VIRTUAL GAMES, part of the LEA Avatar Art Games project: "They’re called the Avatar Games because they’re really a 'physical' challenge for your avatar—having to successfully run through a gauntlet of objects and artful environments to reach the end. It’s a marriage of artful builds and a silly footrace—making it accessible to those who admire inworld aesthetics and good, clean fun." And the polar opposite of that standard, Bukkake Bliss Island.

Top 5 Second Life Machinima for 2011!

I loved this blogpost by the great SL reporter Hamlet Au. I'm just going to copy it as is.
I love his choices! (For non-erotic movies :)

New World Notes' Top 5 Second Life Machinima for 2011!

Happy New Year, NWNers! While we wind down 2011, here's my top five favorite SL machinimas for the year, more than worth watching this weekend. Starting with number five, first blogged here, here is Arbit Delacroix's utterly stylish official music video for "Pixelated Truth" from RL Danish band Giana Factory:
At number four is Eric Boccara's face-punching "Juroney" (first blogged here), which proves you can make visually smashing, totally believable action-oriented machinima in SL:
See selections number three to one and an honorable mention after the break!
Number three: "Artwashers" by Friday Siamendes, which I first blogged here, making great use of voice acting and comic editing:
A strong second is "Traveling", which I first blogged about here, by Pep Lemmon (who also wrote the music), which NWN reader Ehrman Digfoot then called, quite accurately, "breathtaking". Behold:
And my very favorite for 2011, first blogged here, Tutsy Navarantha's dazzling "A Journey Into the Metaverse”:
And here's an honorable mention of "Codes of Honor", which I blogged about here, which isn't SL machinima in the usual sense, as it incorporates a lot RL documentary footage, but just as much worth watching and being inspired by for that very reason:
By "best", I'm only including the machinima I've watched and blogged about in 2011, and I'm sure I've missed many that could just as easily deserve a mention -- please include your favorites in Comments below.

THE TOP 50 SIMS!

Congrats to all our friends on the list of the TOP 50 SIMS in Second Life in the great reporter Hamlet Au's blog.

I liked Hamlet's suggestion that this list is really steady, so why not download the architecture of these sims into the game so it loads faster there.

As usual 46 of the 50 sims were Adult or Mature sims. So we dominated! We are a naughty SL force to rekon with!

To see numbers 1-25 and to read all of Hamlet's story, just check it out after the break!

SL's Top 50 Sims for 11/11: Only 10 New Entries from October (I.E., Why SL Sims Should Have a Download Option)

Courtesy Louis Platini's Metaverse Business, a Second Life/OpenSim analytics company that gathers publicly accessible in-world data for its clients, here's the top 50 most popular sims in Second Life for November 2011, listed according their average visitor count, the unique visitor range at any given period, and the sim's rank the previous month. As is usually the case, the top 50 list is relatively stable from the previous month, with only ten new entries to the top 50. (Though not necessarily new sims.)
If you compare this list to last month's top 50, or a random month from 2011, like May, you'll see many or most of the same sims, regulars like Brasil Sul, the jazz club Frank's Place 2, and, of course, that inexplicable standby, Bukkake Bliss Island. Which raises an important point we discussed last week:
If many or even most regular SL users stay in the same place when they come to Second Life (which seems to be true), and the architecture to most of these popular places rarely change in any significant way (which also seems to be the case), why not introduce SL regions which come with a download option, to reduce lag and other performance problems?>
More on that later.
